The Ensemble intercontemporain, an independent organization,
is a permanent group of 31 soloists established in 1976 and presided by Pierre Boulez, who share a passion for the music of the 20th and of the 21st centuries and take part in its creation, performance and transmission. They collaborate with composers in the exploration of new instrumental techniques, as well as in projects combining music, dance, theater, cinema, video and the plastic arts. In residence at the Cité de la Musique (Paris) since 1995, they perform and record in France and abroad, where they are invited to the major international festivals. As of september 2006, Susanna Mälkki will be the music director of the Ensemble.

The Société de Perception Et de DIstribution des Droits des Artistes-interprètes de la Musique et de la danse manages the patrimonial rights of the artists and interpreters of music and dance, ensures that these rights are known and respected, and develops grant programs for the creation and promotion of their works, as well as for the training of artists and interpreters. |

The Groupe de Recherches Musicales, located within the premises of INA (National Institute for Audiovisuals) in the building of Radio France, has a world-wide know expertise in electroacoutics. Built on the first "music research" experiments of the early 50s, founded by Pierre Schaeffer, it has developed the theoretical and practical tools used in this domain, as well as innovative methods of radio and 3D concert productions. It also provides material and services to the music creation programs of Radio France. The GRM has offered to the Multimedia Library of IRCAM its collection of CDs. |

The Kronos Quartet, founded in 1973 and based in the USA, specializes in contemporary music of all genres, from Shostakovitch, Webern, Bartok or Ives to Piazzolla, Cage, Scott or Howlin' Wolf, commissioning new compositions from Azerbaidjan to Zimbabwe. The Quartet has donated to the Multimedia Library of IRCAM its collection of CDs. |

Archimed is a software house in Lille, which specializes in multimedia projects. It has developed the full suite of client-server software in use at the Multimedia Library providing online, network access to the audio documents (on hard disks and in jukeboxes), video documents and CDROMs. |

The Groupe Bull is an international information technology group based in Europe. The library software of the Multimedia Library as well as its WWW server for the OPAC run on a Bull Estrella server, comprizing a PowerPC 604-133 and running AIX. |

The CCETT (Centre commun d'études de télédiffusion et télécommunications), located in Rennes, is one of the research centers of the France Télécom group. Its MPEG compression algorithm for PCs was used to compress the audio archives of IRCAM allowing for significant savings of disk space and network bandwidth without loss of quality. |

Ever is a software house based in Lyons and which develops software for libraries, management of documents and archives, and their publication within the organization and on the Internet. The library software in use at the Multimedia Library is Ever's Loris, based on the UNIMARC format and offering a WWW access to its OPAC. |

Founded in 1976 and subsequently purchased by Singapore Technologies, Micropolis was a leading designer and manufacturer of high performance disk drives. The audio and video archives of IRCAM were stored on a Micropolis RAID Raidion Gandiva LTX. |

Ornet Data Communications Technologies Ltd. (A Siemens Company) was a designer and manufacturer of high-performance switches and bridges. The two FDDI networks initially installed at IRCAM (one within the Multimedia Library and one being the backbone between the two buildings) were connected to the rest of the LAN via Ornet Lanbooster 5000, and the distribution within the building via Accton hubs. All the networking equipment was provided and installed by the French company ACTN, located in Toulouse. |

Sony Corporation is an international manufacturer of multimedia (video, audio, computer peripherals, semi-conductors, etc.). The jukeboxes in which the audio CDs and the CDROMs is a Sony CDZ-R360, whose microcode has been modified by Sony at our request so as to implement computer access to the audio samples on the CDs, thereby allowing for the broadcast-on-demand on the LAN of the CDs. |

Zenith Data Systems, a Packard-Bell NEC company, is a leading force in the PC market, distributed in Europe by Groupe Bull, providing professional products, from the portable to the server, as well as screens and peripherals. The terminals used in the Multimedia Library for catalog access, as well as to listen to the audio archives and CD, view the videos and CDROMs, are Zenith Z-Station GT equiped with a 100MHz Pentium and running Windows 95. The audio and video documents are served by a Zenith Z-Server MX equiped with a 133MHz Pentium and running Windows NT Server. |
