This site aims to make available to scholars and the general public recent information and archival material on the history and activities of some celebrated music societies, in particular the Société Nationale de Musique, founded by Camille Saint-Saëns in 1871, and the Société de Musique Contemporaine du Québec, both of which are still active today. Information will subsequently be made available about societies that are no longer in existence but which have played a major role in the propagation of 20th century music: the SMI, founded by Maurice Ravel, the Jeune France movement of Messiaen, Jolivet and Daniel-Lesur, the Domaine Musical of Pierre Boulez, etc.

All bodies involved in the diffusion of contemporary music (associations, ensembles, libraries, festivals, etc.) are invited to take part in this undertaking. We should like to make a list of links to sites with a similar profile.
